By using this site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What this site is
My Sample Ballot is a free, independent, nonpartisan voter information project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or paid by any candidate, campaign, political party, political committee or government agency, including any Supervisor of Elections. The site is still in development and its data is incomplete.
2. This is not an official ballot
- Information here is for general reference only. Your official ballot comes from your county's election office, and that office's sample ballot is the only authoritative list of what you will vote on.
- Where official ballot data isn't available, the site may show a ballot it assembled from official candidate lists and the districts it could match to your location. Those ballots are labeled, and they can be missing races or include races that are not on your ballot.
- We work to keep information accurate and current, but we can't guarantee it is complete, correct or up to date. Always confirm dates, deadlines, polling places and ballot contents with your election office.
- Nothing on this site is legal advice or a recommendation for how to vote.
3. Where the information comes from
- Ballot questions are shown in their official wording from government sources, with a link to the source.
- Candidate information comes from official records (such as the Florida Division of Elections and county election offices), public data services (such as the FEC and Open States), and the candidates' own campaign websites. Each item links to where it came from. We only use a campaign website when its terms allow it.
- Candidate positions are short, neutral summaries of what the candidate has publicly stated. If we found nothing on a topic, we say so rather than guess. Summaries can miss nuance, so follow the source link for the full statement.
- Endorsements are listed as the candidate or the endorsing organization published them, on equal terms for every organization. We don't publish organizations' ratings or commentary. Party endorsements are shown only in nonpartisan races.
- Some plain-language "If you vote Yes / No" explanations of ballot questions are written with an AI model from the official ballot text and checked for neutrality. They can still contain mistakes; the official text controls.
- Candidate profiles are reviewed by a person before they appear.
4. Your privacy
- We don't ask for your name, birthday or any account.
- Your address or map selection is used only to look up your ballot. It is sent to Google's Civic Information API and the U.S. Census Bureau's address and boundary services for that purpose. We don't store it or write it to logs; cached results are saved under a scrambled (hashed) key, never the address itself.
- A sample ballot PDF you upload is read inside your browser; only the races and questions found in it are sent to us.
- Your picks stay on your device. We don't sell data, run ads or use tracking cookies. Map images come from OpenStreetMap's servers, which receive the usual web request information from your browser.
5. Acceptable use
You're welcome to use the site for personal, educational, journalistic and civic purposes, to link to it, and to share what you find. When you quote or reuse our summaries, please credit "My Sample Ballot" and link to the original source we cite. You agree not to:
- present this site's content as an official ballot or government publication, or alter it to mislead;
- use the site to spread false information about voting, intimidate or harass voters, candidates or election workers, or impersonate a candidate, campaign, party or official;
- send automated or high-volume requests that burden the site or its data providers (for example, bulk address lookups or scraping the site's API), or resell access to the site's data;
- try to break, overload or get around the site's security, or upload files containing malicious code;
- use the site in a way that violates any law, including election laws.
6. Candidates, campaigns and corrections
- We do not accept payment, donations or anything of value from candidates, campaigns, parties or political committees in exchange for coverage, and coverage can't be bought or removed by request.
- If something about you or your campaign is wrong or out of date, tell us and point us to a public source. We'll check it and correct verified errors as quickly as we can.
7. Donations
If we ask for support, donations are voluntary and fund development and data costs for the site. They are not tax-deductible, they don't buy influence over content, and we don't accept them from candidates, campaigns, parties or political committees.
8. Other people's content and trademarks
Ballot text and government records are public. Candidates' statements, names, logos and websites belong to their owners; we summarize and link to them for voter information. Links to other sites are provided for reference, and we aren't responsible for their content or practices.
9. No warranties; limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, the people who run this site are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it or reliance on its information, including missing or incorrect ballot information.
10. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version, and continuing to use the site means you accept the changes. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida.
11. Contact
A contact address for questions and correction requests will be posted here soon.
